Review: 2009 Hino 500 Series FD 1024 Rigid Truck
Hino 500 Series FD 1024: The introduction
The trucking industry in Australia and in virtually any country, is one that is vital to the economy. Even though they are basically operating “under the radar” for regular consumers, this sector is very essential to the growth and development of the country. Delivering and transporting goods and cargoes of all sorts across any state will be impossible without the use of a good and reliable truck. So business owners all over have learned to be selective in acquiring a truck that would represent their brand.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s quite difficult to narrow down the quality trucks with the steady increase of the number of vehicles being manufactured every year. Well, don’t worry because you’re in good hands with us. Today, I’ll be featuring not one of the latest models on the market but one that has certainly caught my attention. So let’s move on to our review of the 2009 Hino FD 1024 rigid truck from the 500 series.
Hino 500 Series FD 1024: Key features
The FD 1024 features the Hino J08E TE engine which can produce a maximum power of 240hp at 2,500rpm and a maximum rated torque of up to 686Nm at 1,500rpm. This diesel engine can also deliver an engine speed of up to 2,550rpm. The J08E TE incorporates a direct injection combustion system with exhaust gas re-circulation technology (EGR) to reduce emissions. In addition to that, it integrates an electronic control common rail type fuel injection type. With a fuel tank capacity of 200L, you can definitely stay on the road longer which will bring in the profit more. And finally, it has a single cylinder, water-cooled air compressor which maximises the engine’s performance.
This truck integrates a hydraulic system brake with two leading shoes for front and rear acting on all wheels. It also features an air dryer and a brake auto-shoe adjuster. In addition, its Anti-locking Braking System (ABS) helps prevent wheels from locking when you’re braking. Finally, there is a spring parking brake acting on rear wheel and an electric-pneumatic exhaust brake with valve in exhaust pipe.
The cab of this rigid truck is made from an all steel construction equipped with a torsion bar tilt mechanism. The driver’s seat is sure to be comfortable with the urethane foam pads and air suspension feature. It also has a high-back and is a 4-way adjustable seat. The driver and the passenger’s seats both have a 3-point type seat belt; whereas the center passenger’s seat has a 2-point type.
Aside from those, the FD 1024 is installed with electric, dual windshield wipers and a forced ventilator type by electric blower. The cab also comes standard with central locking and a keyless entry, a heater and a defroster, and air conditioner. Add to those the power windows, a rest area, and an AM/FM radio with CD player. Finally, it features ample storage, an easy start, an engine control link, and cruise control.
To complete the FD 1024, Hino installed a lot of standard instruments to improve operations. This rigid truck has the coolant temperature and air pressure gauge aside from the usual meters. It also has switches for the one-key start and stop system, for the map lamp, easy start, and cruise control. Installed are a number of warning signals and buzzers for safety measures. These include brake fluid level and brake adjustment warning lamps, a seat belt buzzer, and others.

Hino 500 Series FD 1024: The verdict
As I’ve mentioned before, this rigid truck is not the newest to grace the market. But even so, it has all these amazing features that are very beneficial to any trucking business. Given its many installations, the FD 1024 is quite relatively affordable. Not to mention that it can perform as well as the new models. Finally, I’d like to add that this truck also comes with a beavertail tray with a hydraulic ramp (not included in the photo). This addition can actually improve the versatility of your truck. So whether you’re just starting your business or expanding, this 2009 Hino FD 1024 is definitely worth checking out.
