SAF-Holland is bringing in the new CBX40 AeroBeam Sliding Tandem Axle Air Suspension to headline the next generation of the SAF CBX series lineup. The company said that the equipment will be the lightest air suspension in the industry. Thus, yielding the optimal balance of strength and weight for ultimate performance on many trucking applications.
Primarily designed to improve the overall efficiency of trailer trucks, the CBX40 comes with a modest base weight of 1,267 pounds; 85 pounds lighter than its predecessor and about 27 pounds more lightweight that the market’s average. Per Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Phase 2 legislation, the 85-pound savings will reduce the GHG gas emission by 1,250 pounds over 10 years.
In addition, the unit features 5.75-inch diameter friction-welded axles that are 12% thicker than competitive axles. Therefore, minimising axle deflection to improve inside tire tread wear. Heat-treated cast alloy suspension beams achieve an optimum strength-to-weight ratio. The suspension and axle beam assembly is covered by a 10- year warranty.
“The CBX40 AeroBeam is evolutionary for weight reduction,” said Jeff Talaga, Vice President of Sales and Strategic Development, Americas. “We are excited to offer the AeroBeam, the next generation of lightweight air suspension systems as part of our promise to contribute to our customers’ success, providing solutions that maximise fleet efficiency and safety.”
Much like all SAF suspension systems, the CBX40 AeroBeam is reinforced with Black Armour which brings hot dip galvanised level protection without the added weight or cost of HDG. The environment-friendly black armour chemically bonds with metal to form a protective layer that is impervious to water and stands up against the harsh anti-icing agents used on roadways.
The CBX40 AeroBeam is stronger, with an 80 KSI steel sub-frame with four full-height cross members. Sixteen strategically placed reinforcements improve resistance to damage caused by curb strikes, slider repositioning, and drag turns.
